What do you get when you combine a cult men’s fashion designer with a popular athletic apparel company? An ideal collaboration for street-ready activewear.
Collaborations have become a frequent occurrence in the fashion world, but this one between German-born American designer, Robert Geller, and Lululemon Athletica seemed like a convergence waiting to happen.
Geller and the SVP of men’s design, Ben Stubbington, have been friends for 15 years, first meeting on a soccer field in New York City. The joint effort was first seen during Geller’s runway show in February at NY Fashion Week. The outcome is making functional clothes for travel, work and exercise - basically mirroring the needs of Geller’s busy life with family, work, play and frequent hops on and off planes.
The Robert Geller x Lululemon collection is called “Take The Moment,” and features a capsule collection of short-sleeve and collared shirts, tanks, pants, hooded half-zips, jackets and shorts. There’s even a collaboration Geller did with Common Projects to make sneakers in the same color schemes.
Darker color combinations and sophisticated undertones with pops of color have energy and at the same time are balanced, and work well with each other. A muted pink, almost tie-dyed looking fabric was created in a finish that travels well and gives the illusion of a textured finish.
A couple crossover pieces we see that can translate to golf are the Take the Moment hooded half-zip that is made from nylon, lycra and poly so it has stretch and would be nice on a cool morning. It comes in light or dark grey with reflective tape detail and an on-trend, woven-look texture.
A full-zip, hooded jacket is made from all nylon for lightweight comfort and goes as easily with golf pants as it does a pair of joggers. We can see throwing this on after a late round. It comes in grey and neon green that is mixed throughout the collection in various pieces.
More and more golf clubs are adding fitness facilities and the new selection of short sleeve crew neck tops, shorts and swim trunks will be a nice addition to any locker wardrobe for working out and swimming laps.
The Geller x Lululemon collection is scheduled to be in stores and online in May, ranging from $68 to $398, but we found a selection of pieces on ModaOperandi.com that you can order now, and will ship in May.
